1. Where is Kona?
Kona, better known as Kailua-Kona, is on the "Big Island" of Hawaii,
the largest of the Hawaiian chain.
2. What is included in the charter?
Accommodations aboard the yacht, diving, compressed air tanks, weights and
weight belts, airport transfers on day of arrival and departure, meals and
snacks, non-alcoholic and local alcoholic beverages are include in the charter
rate.
3. How many days is the charter and how many
dives can I make?
The Kona Aggressor II charter is seven days, Saturday afternoon to Saturday
morning, with five and one-half days of diving. Most guests make up to 5 dives a
day. Diving begins on Sunday morning and ends about midday on Friday when we
return to the dock.
4. When should I arrive in Kona?
You should plan to arrive in Kona on the day of your charter, Saturday.
5. Are there any taxes or fees not included in
the charter price?
No.
6. Do I need a passport?
Hawaii is part of the United States, therefore, U.S. citizens are not required
to have a passport. Non-U.S. citizens should check with the appropriate
consulate.
7. How do I meet the Kona Aggressor II on the day
of departure?
If you arrive in Kona on the day of your charter, you will be met at the Keahole
Airport by an uniformed crew member and taken to the boat. If you are already in
the Kona area, you will need to make your way to the boat at 5:30 p.m. The Kona
Aggressor II docks in Kailua-Kona Bay near King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel.
8. Where does the Kona Aggressor II dock?
The Kona Aggressor II docks in Kailua-Kona Bay near King Kamehameha's Kona Beach
Hotel.
9. What is special about the diving on the Kona
Coast?
Everyone has at least heard of the magnificent whales, but Kona's
macro-photography is unbelievable: shark nose blennies, harlequin shrimp,
frogfish, turkeyfish and many other wonderful creatures. The tropical fish
species in the Pacific are a great deal different from those most divers are
accustomed to seeing in the Caribbean. Many species are endemic to Hawaii,
making it a special place for fish-watchers. Kona is also home to large marine
life like spinner dolphin, turtles, mantas, sharks and several whale species.
10. What is the water temperature? Will I need a
wet suit?
The water temperature ranges from about 74 to 80F. We suggest that all divers
have a wet suit. During the summer months, a 3mm suit is sufficient, but during
the slightly cooler winter months, a 5mm suit is recommended. A hood or hooded
vest is very helpful if you have a tendency to get chilled. The visibility
ranges from 75 to 125 feet.
11. What is the best time of year for diving?
Diving is superb year-round. Several species of whales are present during the
winter months, however, the seas can be a little rough. While Hawaii does not
have an actual rainy season, average rainfall is slightly higher between
February and April.
12. What type of topography can I expect to see
in Hawaii?
The Kona coast has many different bays, coves, lagoons, lava flows, black sand,
white sand and green sand beaches and dramatic cliffs plus unique lava
formations.
13. Is there dinghy diving?
No, diving is directly from the mothership.
14. Is there night diving?
Absolutely. The night diving is terrific.
15. Is it customary to offer a crew gratuity?
We believe gratuities should be voluntary and based upon the quality of the
service the crew has provided. When setting your account, the Captain will have
an envelope for gratuities to be divided equally among the crew. Gratuities may
be left by cash, credit card, or travelers checks.
16. What is planned for Friday afternoon and
evening after we return to port?
This is your opportunity to stroll around town, shop or sight-see in Kona. The
Kona Aggressor II crew hosts a cocktail party Friday evening. Dinner is not
served on board. The crew can recommend a local restaurant and/or luau and
arrange transportation. This meal is not included in the charter price.
17. When is check-out time?
Check-out is between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
18. Where is the nearest recompression chamber?
The nearest recompression is in Honolulu on the island of Oahu.
19. As a single traveler, do you offer single
supplement rates?
Yes, the cost is 1 1/2 of the normal charter rate.
20. If I book as a single traveler, who will I
room with and who will I dive with?
As a single traveler, you will be booked in a stateroom with someone of the same
gender. If you are traveling as a group, the group leader determines the rooming
list. If you need help finding a dive buddy, the Captain and/or crew will gladly
assist you or you can find one once onboard. Normally, there are many other
single travelers.
